For a first release, this is a solid start. The author has created a likable main character and a promising scenario for the beginning of a LitRPG series. If he were an established author, however, I would rate this a 2 or 3 star. To improve, I might suggest painting clearer and more descriptive scenes and make sure character logic and secondary character relationships make more sense.The RPG system in the game was well thought out, and it showed. The author took the time to create a nice system with unique features and I hope he carries this further in the future and dedicates the MC to some crafting professions or secondary abilities. A character sheet here or there might be nice so that we can track the characters stats and skills.
I did enjoy it for what it was, though: a short LitRPG work.

Very linear, little depth to story. Editing was good. I think it more of a 3.5 stars. It is a read once if you are bored and have nothing else to read book.
Was kind of rushed and the ending made no sense. Spoiler if all they need to do to return is to die why didn't Crain kill himself. Sounds cheesy and you can see the plot win gets more to come back to give the prof energy to go back and he made it sound like Mabel was in on it...... ya not sure the next one is worth reading seems the next plot is pretty straightforward
It's a lot better then you think, i can't wait for the next one. This one was a bit short so i hope the next one o longer
Pretty cool magic system, not many errors, a fun read with a nice pace.
I'm not one to remember specific details to give examples. That said, it seems to have an interesting game mechanic but it's not explained well. "Player" motivation seems off somehow, going from academic to bloodrager. Class ability seems to be ignored, probably because it is obtained just before the ending. Too short.
I enjoyed reading this book. But this book was to short I do hope that the next one is longer.
This book has an interesting premise, an academic gets pulled into another dimension that acts like an RPG. He meets a few characters, starts to enjoy himself, and finds the start of a mystery. The mystery is, what is this place really.
The problems with the story is it skips over a lot of plot details. For example, the first character he befriends gets him involved in a quest, and then some heavy hitter bad guys show up, stuff happens that our heroes have to deal with. And then nothing, we never hear about them again. The final discussion at the end of the book and the hero's vow are also unclear. The guy he fights with seems to do him a favor, and he vows.. revenge? Something is just missing.
It's a good start, an interesting take on the RPG genre, but needs some polish. There's an undercurrent to the story the author wants to build up for a full series, it just needs more plot development.
